How to Make Sunflower Husk Pellets for Home Use

Blog wood pellet production 1660

Sunflower husks are the shells left over after the seeds are removed from the sunflower fruit. These husks are a common by-product of sunflower seed processing industries. As sunflowers are grown widely, there’s a lot of these husks available each year. Traditionally, they were often discarded or burned, but now they have a new purpose.

With advances in biomass pelletizing technology, sunflower husks have become a great material for making biofuel pellets. They are mostly made of cellulose, which is a type of carbon-based material that burns with high heat. Plus, sunflower husks are naturally very dry, often with a moisture content of just 8-10%, perfect for making pellets.

But before you can make pellets, you need to crush the husks into smaller pieces. A small wood hammer mill can do this job easily. Once crushed, the husks are ready for pelletizing. Since sunflower husks are soft, they’re easy for a biomass pellet machine to compress into dense, fuel-efficient pellets.

Once the sunflower husk pellets have cooled, you can store them in bags for future use. These pellets, pressed by a biomass pellet machine, are denser and burn for longer in a pellet stove. Their uniform size and shape allow for more efficient burning, resulting in minimal smoke. With their low price and high efficiency, sunflower husk pellets offer a clean and cozy alternative for biomass energy.

We specialize in biomass pelletizing technology, and our company designs and manufactures new-type biomass pellet plants that are highly effective for processing sunflower husk pellets. If you’re planning to set up a sunflower husk pellets plant but don’t know where to start, don’t hesitate to reach out to us! We’re always here to offer our expertise and advice.
